Roger Federer has heaped praise on long-term friend and on-court rival Rafael Nadal ahead of the Laver Cup in September, the Daily Express report.
Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, is set to compete for Team Europe alongside Nadal in Geneva later in the year.
The pair competed in a doubles match for the first time in the same event back in 2017, however, the legendary duo failed to take to the court together last year due to Nadal’s ongoing injury.
The 37-year-old was quick to heap praise on the Spaniard, claiming Nadal is a natural leader.
Federer, who was making his first public appearance since his shock last 16 exit at the Australian Open to Greek youngster Stefanos Tsitsipas last month, said:
I know that Rafa’s going to be on Team Europe and it makes me more confident knowing he is going to be there.
Rafael Nadal is a great guy, super professional, a great team player, a natural leader.
He fits in the team super-nice and gives great energy and motivation.
The Swiss star is set to next appear on court in the Dubai Tennis Championships, which are due to begin on February 17.
Federer will be the top seed in the event, which consists the likes of Marin Cilic, Kei Nishikori and Tsitsipas.
