Novak Djokovic has admitted that he wants to become the world number one before the end of this year, according to a report on the Tennis World USA.
Djokovic is currently in tenth place on the ATP world rankings and he wants to push himself higher up the list following his Wimbledon title.
Rafael Nadal is currently the world number one but Djokovic isn’t giving up on catching his Spanish rival who he defeated in an epic Wimbledon semi-final last month.
The Serbian was the world number one for over three years but injuries resulted in him dropping down the list considerably.
Djokovic was the best player in the world from July 2014 till November 2017 and he is dreaming of earning that title once again.
When speaking about the matter, he said:
Well, the No. 1 spot is always the goal. I’m secretly hoping that’s a possibility. It doesn’t depend only on me. Of course, it depends on the other players as well and how will they play until the season ends.
Of course, the fact that I have no points to defend until the end of the season is definitely encouraging.
Djokovic has his eyes firmly set on winning the upcoming US Open and is full of confidence after his Wimbledon success.
