Rafael Nadal has revealed that he is feeling “excited” at the possibility of facing long-term rival Roger Federer at this year’s Wimbledon, according to a report on Tennis World USA.
The Spaniard is hoping to retain his world number one spot by winning the Wimbledon title, whilst Federer is determined to defend his trophy.
Nadal had a brilliant clay-court season whilst Federer decided to rest prior to Wimbledon and both players have brushed aside anyone who has come in their way so far.
Both players are in action today in their quarter-final matches as they bid for a place in the last 4.
When speaking about possibly facing the Swiss international in the Wimbledon final, Nadal surprisingly said:
I am excited to play Roger. I am not saying I am not excited to play against Roger in the final. I am excited. It will be a good result for me. Facing Roger again will be something fantastic. If you ask me if I prefer another one, I say yes.
The overall goal is to try to win the tournament. Depends on who you play you have less or more chances to win. That’s the thing. I can be here, I can’t come here and say, No, of course, I want to play against the best players.
Nadal faces Juan Martin del Potro whilst Federer is battling against Kevin Anderson for a place in the semi-finals.
