Novak Djokovic: ‘I’m not one of the favourites for Wimbledon’
Despite recording his 800th career win against France’s Adrian Mannarino to reach the semi-finals of the Fever-Tree Championships, Novak Djokovic has played his Wimbledon chances down.
Djokovic has joined Croatia’s Marin Cilic, Australia’s Nick Kyrgios and France’s Jeremy Chardy in the last four, and will face Chardy in the semi-finals after defeating fellow Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 7-5 6-1.
It is only the second time the Serb star has reached the semi-final of a tournament in 2018, as he continues his recovery from a long term elbow problem.
Talking after his quarter-final win, Djokovic was asked if he was one of the favourites for Wimbledon which is less than two weeks away, to which he smiled and said:
Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves too early. I mean, I had two great matches so far, and I’ll just keep my focus here. I’m definitely not one of the favourites for Wimbledon.
With the 12-time Grand Slam champion failing to reach the last four in his previous five Grand Slam appearances, he will be hoping his positive performances at Queen’s this week will carry on over into Wimbledon.
