Alexander Zverev makes huge Kyle Edmund claim ahead of Italian Open final
Italian Open finalist and world number three Alexander Zverev believes British number one Kyle Edmund will soon be in the world’s top 10, the Daily Express report.
German youngster Zverev defeated Edmund in straight sets in the quarter-finals and then went onto beat Marin Cilic in a dramatic semi-final.
Zverev is set to take on Rafael Nadal in the final on Sunday, with a win for Nadal earning the Spaniard world number one status.
However, before talking about the final and Nadal, Zverev was quick to heap praise on the Brit when asked about Edmund’s potential.
I think Kyle has improved a lot since the last 18 months. I think the backhand is the shot that is the most noticeable on him that he has improved in the last 18 months. Before, it was a shaky shot, but now he barely misses it. And he goes backhand down the line great and tries to be aggressive with it, as well. So I think that shot he has improved dramatically. That’s why he’s up in the rankings.
Edmund, who defeated Novak Djokovic at the Madrid Open, recently broke into the world’s top 20 for the first time and many pundits and players believe he can now go onto breaking into the top 10 before the end of the season.
