Kyrgios knocked out of ATP US Clay Court Championships by Karlovic
World number 24 Nick Kyrgios has been knocked out in the quarter finals of the ATP US Men’s Clay Court Championships by Ivo Karlovic.
The Australian was rattling through the tournament in Los Angeles before he ran into the 39-year-old Croatian in the last eight of the tournament.
Despite winning the first set of the match 6-3, the 22-year-old dropped the next 6-2, followed by a loss in the decider 6-3.
Kyrgios had been 4-0 in his career against the veteran, but was defeated by a ferocious Karlovic, who hit 18 aces in the match.
It’s been a largely forgettable year for the volatile youngster, despite a victory in the Brisbane International tournament at the start of 2018. Kyrgios’ presence in the last eight was his first time in such a round since that success in his home nation back in January.
Karlovic will play Tennys Sandgren in his semi final, with an all-American affair seeing Steve Johnson and Taylor Fritz square off.
