Johanna Konta has made it through to the final sixteen in the Miami Open.

The British number one was facing the talented Elise Mertens of Belgium, ranked 21 in the world.

Judging from the performance however, you wouldn’t have known that. Konta powered past her opponent 6-2 6-1 in a little over an hour, for a pretty good afternoon’s work.

Konta, seeded 11th, will move into the round preceding the quarter finals to meet Venus Williams, who scraped past Kiki Bertens – saving three match points along the way.

A winner at this event last year, the 26-year-old has struggled for form lately, and will be hoping familiar surroundings can propel her back to winning ways.

Konta said:

I tried to take my game to her (Mertens) and managed to do that for big pockets of time, but it’s never easy to come through so I’m really happy,

I definitely have a great relationship with this tournament, the biggest title of my career has come here. Hopefully I can get to the end again.

Can Johanna Konta win her second Miami Open this week?
