British number one Johanna Konta suffered a shock straight-set defeat by 18-year-old Marketa Vondrousova in the second round at Indian Wells, BBC report.
Konta, who is currently the world number 11, had four set points in the first set and was also up 4-2 in the second, but failed to capitalise as Vondrousova took both sets 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 to dump the Brit out in California.
Since her 2017 Wimbledon semi-final, Konta has been in poor form, having won just eight matches after her famous Wimbledon campaign.
The 26-year-old received a bye through to the second round and admitted it was ‘one of the toughest losses I’ve had.’
Konta’s only quarter-final so far this season came in Brisbane in the first tournament of 2018, with the Brit also failing to make it past the second round of the Australian Open in January.
Konta wasn’t the only big name casualty in the second round, as current Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza was also knocked out, this time in three sets by USA’s world number 100 Sachia Vickery.
