American sisters Serena and Venus Williams will meet in the third round at Indian Wells after they were both victorious on Saturday night, the BBC report.
Serena, who has recently returned to the game after giving birth to her first daughter, won 7-6 7-5 against Kiki Bertens before Venus also won in straight sets 6-3 6-4 against Sorana Cirstea to set up the clash.
It will be their earliest meeting at a tournament since the first time they ever faced off against each other, which was a second-round tie at the 1998 Australian Open.
The sisters last met in the 2017 Australian Open final, when Serena, who was pregnant at the time, won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title in straight sets.
Talking ahead of the meeting, Serena said:
I would prefer to play someone else, anybody else, literally anybody else, but it has to happen now. So it is what it is.
The pair have met 28 times competitively before, with Serena having won 17 of them.
