British number three Cameron Norrie was defeated by Japan’s Taro Daniel 6-3 1-6 6-1, in his main draw debut at Indian Wells, Sky Sports report.
Norrie, 22, previously beat Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky and American Christian Harrison to qualify for the first round proper, but failed to progress any further.
Norrie found himself a set down after just 34 minutes of action in his first ever main draw match.
However, the Brit battled back and dominated the second, taking it 6-1 to set up a deciding set.
Daniel then dominated the third and final set himself, taking it 6-1 to conclude Norrie’s main draw debut and leave the Brit extremely disappointed.
To make things even worse for Norrie, Japan’s Daniel will now face five-time Indian Wells champion and multiple Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in the second round, something which would have been on offer to Norrie if he could’ve managed to take the victory.
