Serena Williams is set to make her competitive return to tennis this weekend, in USA’s Fed Cup quarter-final tie against the Netherlands, Sky Sports report.
Williams, 36, was named in the team last month alongside sister Venus, and is set to play in the doubles with Lauren Davis against Lesley Kerkhove and Demi Schuurs on Sunday as USA look to defend their Fed Cup title.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, has not played a competitive match since last year’s Australian Open, after she announced she was pregnant, and gave birth to her first child last September.
Williams was hoping to return at the Australian Open in Melbourne last month, however, she decided to extend her absence after playing an exhibition match at the end of 2017.
There is still a chance Williams could play in the singles, if captain Kathy Rinaldi decides to make changes, something tournament officials allow.
